AMD reported $7.69 billion of second-quarter 2025 revenue and a $134 million operating loss, as Gaming revenue rose 73%

Net income rose to $872 million, which AMD tied mainly to an $853 million release of tax reserves, while about $800 million of charges tied to US export controls cut gross margin.

Revenue$7.69 billion
Operating income−$134 million
Net income$872 million
Quarter endedJun 28, 2025

In its 10-Q, the quarterly report a listed US company files with the Securities and Exchange Commission, filed on Aug 6, 2025, AMD reported revenue of $7.69 billion for the quarter that ended Jun 28, 2025, up 32% from a year earlier. Operating income, the profit from running the business before interest and tax, turned into a loss of $134 million, against income of $269 million a year earlier. AMD said gross margin fell to 40% from 49%, primarily due to approximately $800 million of inventory and related charges tied to the US government export control on its Instinct MI308 data center GPU products.123456789

Gaming revenue was $1.12 billion, up 73% from $648 million in the same quarter a year earlier. AMD’s earnings release said the increase was driven by higher semi-custom revenue and strong Radeon GPU demand. Its earnings slides cited demand for Radeon GPUs and console gaming products as drivers of the Client and Gaming segment, and listed a new multi-year Microsoft collaboration on custom chips for the next generation of Xbox devices, including consoles, PCs and handhelds. Client revenue was $2.5 billion, up 67%, which the release attributed primarily to Ryzen desktop processor demand and a richer product mix. Data Center revenue was $3.24 billion, up 14%.1011121314151617181920

Net income was $872 million, against $265 million a year earlier. AMD said the increase was primarily driven by an income tax benefit from an $853 million release of uncertain tax positions, tied to relief for dual consolidated losses that the US Internal Revenue Service approved in April 2025. Net income also counts $104 million from discontinued operations, which AMD said includes the results of the manufacturing business of ZT Systems, acquired on Mar 31, 2025. On May 18, 2025 AMD agreed to sell that business to Sanmina Corporation.21222324252627

AMD’s earnings release also gave non-GAAP measures, figures outside US accounting rules that the company defines itself; among the items they left out were the release of tax reserves and the income from discontinued operations. On that basis operating income was $897 million and net income $781 million, AMD’s own measures rather than the GAAP loss and income above. In the same release, dated Aug 5, 2025, AMD forecast revenue of approximately $8.7 billion, plus or minus $300 million, for the third quarter of 2025, excluding any revenue from MI308 shipments to China because its license applications were then under review by the US government.282930313233
