EA said on Jan 22, 2025 it expected $7.000 billion to $7.150 billion in fiscal 2025 net bookings and that Dragon Age and EA SPORTS FC 25 fell short of expectations
EA's preliminary results of Jan 22, 2025 put the quarter ended Dec 31, 2024 at approximately $2.215 billion in net bookings, and said Dragon Age engaged approximately 1.5 million players, down nearly 50% from its expectations.
Electronic Arts said on Jan 22, 2025 that it expected net bookings of approximately $2.215 billion for the quarter that ended Dec 31, 2024, and $7.000 billion to $7.150 billion for fiscal year 2025, the year to Mar 31, 2025. EA defined net bookings as the net amount of products and services sold digitally or sold in physical form in the period, calculated by adding total net revenue to the change in deferred net revenue for online-enabled games. On a GAAP basis (US accounting rules), EA expected net revenue of approximately $1.883 billion and diluted earnings of approximately $1.11 a share for the same quarter. EA put the figures in a press release attached to an 8-K, the current report a US-listed company files when something significant happens, filed under item 2.02, results of operations and financial condition.1,2,3,4,5,6,7
EA's initial guidance for fiscal year 2025 had anticipated mid-single-digit growth in live services net bookings, but on Jan 22 it projected a mid-single-digit decline, with Global Football accounting for the majority of the change. Global Football had two consecutive fiscal years of double-digit net bookings growth, EA said, but early momentum in the quarter did not last to its end, and EA revised its outlook for the franchise to end the fiscal year down mid-single-digit at the midpoint of the new outlook. Separately, Dragon Age engaged approximately 1.5 million players during the quarter, down nearly 50% from the company's expectations. BioWare, an EA studio, developed Dragon Age: The Veilguard.8,1,9,10,11,12
Andrew Wilson, EA's chief executive, said Dragon Age and EA SPORTS FC 25 underperformed the company's net bookings expectations, and that EA expected a return to growth in FY26, the year after the one ending Mar 31, 2025. Stuart Canfield, the chief financial officer, said EA expected to grow in FY26 as it launched more of its franchises.13,14,3,15
EA said it would announce its results for the quarter on Feb 4, 2025, and its 8-K of that day said it had issued a press release announcing them. The quarter's preliminary results in the Jan 22 release were estimates, and EA said they could differ from the amounts it would ultimately report in its quarterly report on Form 10-Q for the quarter ended Dec 31, 2024; the Feb 4 results release is not among the documents read for this article.16,17,1,18
