Sony's continuing operations made 768,929 million yen of operating income in the six months to Sep 30, 2025

The figures leave out the Financial Services business, which Sony presented as a discontinued operation ahead of its Oct 1, 2025 spin-off, and its game segment made 268,311 million yen of operating income over the same six months.

On Nov 11, 2025, Sony Group reported results for the second quarter and the six months ended Sep 30, 2025, in a financial summary attached to a Form 6-K, a foreign company's report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, filed on Nov 12, 2025. For continuing operations, which leave out the Financial Services business, sales were 5,729,522 million yen and operating income was 768,929 million yen, against a re-presented 638,462 million yen a year earlier. Net income attributable to Sony Group's stockholders from continuing operations was 570,452 million yen, and 598,877 million yen with the discontinued operation included. Sony said the summary was exempt from review by an audit firm and that the 2024 comparison had been re-presented.1234567891011

For games, the Game & Network Services segment, which covers digital software, network services and home gaming products, made operating income of 120,354 million yen in the quarter to Sep 30, 2025, against a re-presented 138,849 million yen a year earlier. Its sales to customers were 1,070,432 million yen against 1,034,198 million yen, with network services at 182,681 million yen against 160,779 million yen. Over the six months the segment's operating income was 268,311 million yen against a re-presented 204,058 million yen a year earlier.12132141516173

Sony presented the Financial Services business separately, as a discontinued operation, from the three months ended Jun 30, 2025, after its board resolved on May 14, 2025 on a plan to spin it off. It then executed the partial spin-off of Sony Financial Group Inc. (SFGI), a formerly wholly-owned subsidiary that operates the business, effective Oct 1, 2025. Shareholders on the Sep 30, 2025 record date received one SFGI share for each Sony share, and Sony held 16.40% of SFGI. Sony's standalone accounts under Japanese rules (J-GAAP) carried the distributed shares at 463,885,829,967 yen, or 77.61 yen a share, and Sony said that, because those accounts use the carrying amount, the fair value of the shares has not been disclosed. In its IFRS consolidated statements, however, it recognized dividends payable of 955,700 million yen at Sep 30, 2025, which it described as the amount equivalent to the fair value of the portion of SFGI shares to be distributed. Sony expected a loss of 1 trillion 380 billion yen within net income or loss from discontinued operations, from reclassifying the business's accumulated other comprehensive income, which it said affects neither total equity nor cash flows. Including that loss, it forecast a loss of 310 billion yen in net income attributable to its stockholders on a consolidated basis including the discontinued operation for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026.1819202122232425262728

For continuing operations, Sony forecast operating income of 1.43 trillion yen and net income attributable to stockholders of 1.05 trillion yen for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2026, and said it had revised the forecast. On Nov 11, 2025, its board approved a facility to repurchase up to 35 million shares for up to 100 billion yen between Nov 12, 2025 and May 14, 2026.29303132333435
