Sony raised its operating income forecast by 100 bln yen on Nov 11, 2025, while reporting a 31.5 bln yen impairment tied to Bungie's Destiny 2

Sony's game segment earned 18.5 bln yen less operating income in the quarter to Sep 30, 2025, and said that without the impairment and an 18.3 bln yen cost correction it would have risen 23% from a year earlier.

On Nov 11, 2025, Sony Group presented its results for the second quarter of fiscal 2025, the three months ended Sep 30, 2025, in slides attached to a Form 6-K, a foreign company's report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, filed on Nov 12, 2025. For continuing operations, which leave out the Financial Services business, sales were 3,107.9 bln yen (Sony's abbreviation for billions of yen), up 5%, and operating income was 429.0 bln yen, up 10%, from 389.3 bln yen. Sony said it had re-presented the year-earlier figures on every page of the slides to match, so the year-earlier comparisons below use re-presented figures. Sony raised its forecast for fiscal 2025 operating income from continuing operations to 1,430 bln yen from 1,330 bln yen in August, and its sales forecast to 12,000 bln yen from 11,700 bln yen. The forecast includes an estimated US tariff effect of 50 billion yen on operating income, which Sony said was 20 billion yen less than in its previous forecast.12345678910

In the Game & Network Services segment, quarterly sales, before intersegment transactions are eliminated and so including sales to Sony's other segments, were 1,113.2 bln yen against 1,071.5 bln yen. Sony put the increase down to higher sales from network services and game software titles. Operating income fell to 120.4 bln yen from 138.8 bln yen, a decrease of 18.5 bln yen. Among the factors Sony listed for the fall were impairment losses, write-downs of an asset's recorded value, of 31.5 bln yen against a portion of Bungie's intangible and other assets in connection with Destiny 2, and 18.3 bln yen of expenses from a correction in the amount of certain previously capitalized development costs. Sony called these non-recurring and said that without them operating income would have risen 23% from a year earlier, mainly on higher network services revenue and software sales. For fiscal 2025, it forecast segment sales, again before intersegment eliminations, of 4,470 bln yen, up 150 bln yen from August, and left its 500 bln yen operating income forecast unchanged from August, with an estimated tariff effect of 30 bln yen. Sony noted that the August segment forecasts had not reflected the estimated tariff effect, which the November segment forecasts do. Sony said it expected software and network services sales to keep growing in the second half.1112131415161718192012122

Effective Oct 1, 2025, Sony executed a partial spin-off of Sony Financial Group Inc. (SFGI), a formerly wholly-owned subsidiary that operates the Financial Services business. Sony had classified that business as a discontinued operation after a board resolution on May 14, 2025, which is why the figures above are for continuing operations. From the third quarter, it said, it would apply the equity method to the SFGI shares it continued to hold and record their profit or loss as operating income or loss in continuing operations.623524
