On Jul 31, 2026, Sony Group filed a Form 6-K, the report a foreign company sends the SEC to pass on news it has published elsewhere, with the slides of its earnings presentation for the three months ended Jun 30, 2026, which it calls Q1 FY2026, the first quarter of FY26, its fiscal year ending Mar 31, 2027. Sony filed another 6-K the same day. In the slides, Sony said total PlayStation monthly active users reached 125 million accounts in June, 2% more than a year earlier and a record for a June. Sony defined the measure as an estimated total of unique accounts that played games or used services online on PlayStation in the last month of the quarter, based on its own research and open to later revision. Total playtime in the quarter fell 4% from a year earlier, and Sony said engagement stayed solid because the year-earlier quarter had benefited from season updates to major titles and new hit titles.12345678

In the Game & Network Services segment, operating income rose 37%, from 148.0 to 202.0 in billions of yen. Sony tied the gain to U.S. tariff refunds and foreign exchange, partly offset by higher costs, including investments for the next-generation platform and restructuring costs. Segment sales were essentially flat at 937.1, against 936.5 a year earlier, in billions of yen and including sales to Sony's other segments. In the same units, foreign exchange added 81.7 to those sales, and Sony cited lower sales of non-first-party game software titles and of hardware, which it tied to fewer units sold.9101112

Sony raised its FY26 forecast for the segment from its May forecast: sales to 4,540 from 4,420 and operating income to 660 from 600, in billions of yen, against 4,685.7 and 463.3 in the year before. The upward revisions were 3% for sales and 10% for operating income. Sony credited foreign exchange for the higher sales forecast; for operating income it cited U.S. tariff refunds, foreign exchange and improved costs, and set against them the impact of adjustments to its FY26 first-party title roadmap. On PlayStation 5 hardware, Sony said it had secured the memory needed for its projected sales volume in FY26 and had made no change to its plan for hardware profitability to stay similar to the year before.13141516

Sony said its semiconductor facilities in Kumamoto and neighboring prefectures were all affected by the earthquake of Jul 28, 2026, with no major casualties, that the Kumamoto Technology Center of Sony Semiconductor Manufacturing suspended production immediately afterward, and that restoration work to resume production was underway. The earthquake's effect had not been incorporated into the forecast, because Sony found it difficult to estimate.17181920
