Roblox revenue rose 29% to $3.6 billion in 2024; shareholders' net loss narrowed to $935 million

Bookings, a non-GAAP measure the company reports beside revenue, grew 24% to $4.37 billion; Roblox filed its annual report on Feb 18, 2025.

Revenue$3.6 billion
Operating income−$1.06 billion
Net income attributable to shareholders−$935.38 million
Year endedDec 31, 2024

Roblox reported revenue of $3.6 billion for the year ended Dec 31, 2024, up 29% from $2.8 billion the year before, in its annual report, a Form 10-K, filed Feb 18, 2025. Roblox recognized revenue over the estimated average lifetime of a paying user, or when a virtual item was consumed; it shortened that estimate from 28 months to 27 months from Apr 1, 2024, a change it said added $98.0 million to 2024 revenue and $20.4 million to cost of revenue. Net loss attributable to common stockholders was $935.4 million, against $1.15 billion a year earlier; the consolidated net loss, which includes non-controlling interests, was $940.6 million.1234567891011

Bookings, which Roblox defines as revenue plus the change in deferred revenue and other non-cash adjustments, were $4,369.1 million, up 24%, and substantially all came from sales of virtual currency; the measure is non-GAAP, meaning it sits outside US accounting rules. The 10-K said more paying users mainly drove the rise in bookings: average daily unique paying users grew from about 852,000 in 2023 to about 1,040,000 in 2024. Average daily active users were 82.9 million, up 21%, and hours engaged were 73.5 billion, up 23%.121314151617

Net cash from operating activities was $822.3 million, up 79%, and free cash flow, another non-GAAP measure, was $641.3 million, up 417%. Adjusted EBITDA, also a non-GAAP measure the company defines itself, leaves out interest, taxes, depreciation, stock-based compensation and other items, and was $180.2 million against a negative $170.7 million a year earlier; the stock-based compensation expense it leaves out was $1,015.8 million.1814192021

Developer exchange fees, the expense for the amount earned by developers and creators in the Developer Exchange Program, who can exchange earned Robux for real currency under the program's conditions, rose 25% to $922.8 million; Roblox said the increase was driven mainly by developers earning more as bookings grew. Founder and chief executive David Baszucki said in the earnings release that the company aimed to support 10% of the global gaming content market and would keep investing in its virtual economy, app performance and AI-powered discovery and safety. In its Feb 6, 2025 earnings release, the company guided to revenue between $4,245 million and $4,345 million and bookings between $5,200 million and $5,300 million for full year 2025; its revenue for the year ended Dec 31, 2025 was later reported as $4.89 billion.2223242526272829

The 10-K said Roblox had made platform policy changes since the second half of 2024, and expected to make more, in anticipation of and in response to regulatory requirements and guidance from organizations focused on child and internet safety; it said the changes could affect engagement, revenue and bookings, particularly from younger users. It also described a proposed class action filed Aug 1, 2023 over allegations that minors used third-party virtual casinos to gamble Robux; Roblox filed an answer denying the claims on Oct 30, 2024 and said it could not reasonably estimate the loss or range of loss, if any.3031323334
