Electronic Arts’ revenue fell 9.2% to $1.84 billion in the quarter to Sep 30, 2025, and its net income to $137 million
The 10-Q for the quarter to Sep 30, 2025 showed operating income of $200 million against $384 million a year earlier, and an all-cash takeover of the company, agreed with an investor consortium and not yet closed when the report was filed.
Electronic Arts reported revenue of $1.84 billion for the quarter from Jul 1 to Sep 30, 2025, down 9.2% from $2.025 billion in the same quarter a year earlier. Net income was $137 million, or $0.54 a share, against $294 million, or $1.11 a share, a year earlier. The publisher filed the figures on Oct 31, 2025 in its 10-Q, the quarterly report that US public companies file with the Securities and Exchange Commission, after an earnings release of preliminary results on Oct 28, 2025.1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9
EA said revenue fell $186 million: a $251 million decrease came mainly from its American football franchises and lower sales of extra content for Apex Legends, partly offset by a $65 million increase from Split Fiction. Full game revenue was $618 million, down 14%, which EA tied mainly to a decline in EA SPORTS College Football, partly offset by Split Fiction and EA SPORTS Madden NFL. Live services and other revenue, mainly extra content sold for its games, was $1,221 million, down 7%.10,11,12,13,14
Net bookings is EA’s operating metric for the net amount of products and services sold digitally or physically in the period. It was $1.818 billion, down 13%, which EA said was driven largely by the release of College Football 25 in the year-earlier quarter. The release said Madden NFL 26 grew its net bookings on the year, and that Apex Legends did too, by double digits.15,16,17,18
Operating income fell 47.9% to $200 million. EA’s own non-GAAP operating income, a measure that left out acquisition-related expenses, stock-based compensation and restructuring and related charges, was $400 million against $637 million. Research and development expenses rose $38 million, or 6%, on a $22 million increase in digital infrastructure costs driven by the Battlefield 6 open beta and a $17 million increase in contracted services. Marketing and sales expenses rose $32 million, or 12%, mainly on pre-release spending for Battlefield 6 and skate.19,20,21,22,23,24,25,26
The 10-Q said EA entered into a merger agreement on Sep 28, 2025 under which it would be acquired. EA’s release said it had announced on Sep 29, 2025 that it would be acquired by an investor consortium of the Public Investment Fund, funds affiliated with Silver Lake and funds affiliated with Affinity Partners. The all-cash deal valued EA at an enterprise value of about $55 billion, meaning the value of its shares plus its debt, less its cash, and when the release was published closing was subject to regulatory approvals and approval by EA stockholders. Given the pending deal, EA said it would not host an earnings call for the quarter and would no longer provide forward-looking guidance.27,28,29,30,31
Our records hold the text of the 10-Q’s management discussion (39 subsections) and nothing else of the filing, so the notes to its accounts, where the 10-Q points for further details on the merger, are not covered here. Our records keep one value for each period of an SEC filer, the latest filed, so they cannot tell whether the 10-Q’s year-earlier figures were restated.32,33,34
