Valheim patch 1.0.20 increases trophy drop chance by monster star level
Iron Gate Studio's patch also resets the cheated flag on items from earlier versions, and its notes warn that Mac App Store players cannot crossplay with other platforms until that store's version catches up.
Iron Gate Studio, the developer of Valheim, posted patch notes for version 1.0.20 on Steam on Oct 15. The change the studio leads with is that a monster's star level now increases the chance that it drops a trophy. The studio says players had told it they were not getting as many trophies from their kills as they should, and that this patch should fix that. The studio's opening paragraph closes by hoping players are ready to craft bear rugs.1,2,3,4,5,6
Another entry stops the pseudo-random drop logic from resetting between player sessions, which the studio says gives rare drops a fairer distribution.7
One entry resets the cheated flag on all items and build pieces from previous versions. The studio says a bug in the initial 1.0 release had marked some validly obtained items as cheated, and the reset is meant to undo that. Another entry fixes a bug that kept the Cheat Sword and Cheat Sledge from counting as cheated in specific cases. A further fix addresses a possible exploit to the Forge of Potential.8,9,10
On the technical side, the patch fixes a dedicated server running at an uncapped frame rate when v-sync was enabled in the client on the same computer, which the studio says wasted large amounts of CPU time. It also adjusts the attachment points for sheathed weapons. On Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X, it fixes settings that failed to save between sessions for some users.11,12,13
The post carries a warning for players on the Mac App Store version. The studio says a small delay with the Mac App Store version of this patch means crossplay will not work between Mac App Store players and players on other platforms until that version has caught up. Once the patch is out on that platform, the studio says, crossplay should work for everyone again.14,15
