At the end of Nov 3, 2026 (UTC), the hiring boards of 31 company groups listed 1,806 open roles. At least 767 roles were posted in the 30 days to that day, a floor, because the boards were read on 28 of those 30 days and a role posted and closed between two readings is not counted. Over the 12 months to the same day, 5 of those 31 groups have a WARN notice, a layoff notice a US state requires, among the notices we hold: 12 notices covering 880 workers.1234567

Ubisoft had 284 open roles at the end of Nov 3 and at least 195 roles posted in the 30 days to it, beside 1 WARN notice covering 93 workers in the 12 months to it. Sony Group had 238 open roles and at least 124 posted, beside 1 notice covering 292 workers. Tencent had 221 open roles and at least 91 posted, beside 3 notices covering 150 workers. Epic Games had 68 open roles and at least 21 posted, beside 6 notices covering 217 workers. Keywords Studios had 31 open roles and at least 1 role posted, beside 1 notice covering 128 workers.89101112131415161718192021222324252627

These measures cover different ground: a WARN notice is a US state filing for sites in that state, whatever the company's hiring boards list, and the figures are set side by side, not as cause or sequel.2829

Five other company groups have a WARN notice we hold in the same 12 months and no board we read: 23 notices covering 5,894 workers. Amazon accounts for 16 of those notices and 4,395 workers, Microsoft for 4 notices and 1,261 workers. Their hiring is unknown to us, which is not the same as no openings.3031323334353637

We read the hiring boards of 42 companies in 31 groups, and a company that hires through a closed system such as Workday is not read. Our records of the boards begin on Sep 26, 2026, and a collector run began on 30 of the 39 days from then to the end of Nov 3. Our WARN records come from 8 US states, and a notice counts for a group only once its match to the company is approved, so the totals are the notices we hold and not a count of every layoff. A role is one company's postings under one title, and an open role is not a hire. The counts are as we counted them when this article was written, and a posting confirmed or closed later can move them by a few roles.381373928292

  28. what our records cover of the analysis (hiring-vs-layoffs-2026-11-03)Our records of WARN notices come from 8 US states (California, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington); the notices of the other states are not collected. A WARN notice is a United States state filing for sites in that state, whatever the company's hiring boards list. A notice counts for a company group only once its match to the company has been approved, and in the 12 months to the end of Nov 3, 2026 (UTC) only if we had seen it by then; a notice waiting for review is in no total. The totals are the notices we hold, not a count of every layoff, and we hold notices from New York from Jan 6, 2026 only. Our database
  29. what our records cover of the analysis (hiring-vs-layoffs-2026-11-03)Our records count roles, not postings: a role is one company's postings that share a title, so a role open in several cities is one role. A role is open at the end of a day when one of its postings had been seen by then and had not closed. An open role is not a hire, and a role that closes is not a role that was filled. Our database

  37. what our records cover of the analysis (hiring-vs-layoffs-2026-11-03)Our records, as of the end of Nov 3, 2026 (UTC), cover the hiring boards of 42 companies in 31 company groups: a company counts once it had a posting first seen by then, and a company that hires through a closed system such as Workday is not read, so a company missing from the figures is not a company without openings. Our database
  38. Companies whose boards we readWe read the hiring boards of 42 companies at the end of Nov 3, 2026 (UTC)Our database
  39. what our records cover of the analysis (hiring-vs-layoffs-2026-11-03)Our records of the hiring boards begin on Sep 26, 2026, when the first board was read (a board we added later counts from the day we first saw a posting on it): a role's age before then is not known. A collector run began on 30 of the 39 days from then to the end of Nov 3, 2026 (UTC). No collector run began on Sep 27 to Sep 28, Sep 30 to Oct 5, Oct 11, so a posting that opened and closed within those days is in no figure, and one that closed within them still counts as open until the first run after them. Our database
